Donatello

Safe through Heroes of Ravenford Book 3

Main text: Book 2. Book 3: collapsed section below.

Characters

Donatello, a sandy-haired elf in a puffy white shirt and leather vest, rapier at his side

Donatello — ‘Donnie’ to his friends — is an elven artist and a bit of a rogue. Readers meet him in Serpent Cult, among the performers camped below Ravenford Keep for Andrella’s coming-of-age gala, where Elladan finds him again: the two are old friends from Lukescros.

He is an itinerant painter at heart, roving from town to town and painting portraits, mostly of noblemen’s wives. He is as at home in the seedy side of town as in the quarters of the gentry. He never talks about home, though he is most likely from Kai-Arborus, and he will ramble on about the places he has seen in his hundred and ten years, from Lymeridia, the capital of Thac, to the Pirate Coast.

He is a thin, sandy-haired elf, about 5’5”, with boyish good looks, light blue eyes, a slightly upturned nose, and a strong chin. He dresses like a pirate: puffy white shirt, brown leather vest, brown trousers, and knee-high brown boots. A rapier with an ornate hilt hangs at his side.

In a fight he is quick and agile, always tumbling so his opponents cannot guess where he will strike from next. He is nimble with his fingers too, and admits to ‘picking a lock or two’ in his time. Trouble tends to follow him. He is also loyal, and will put his life on the line for a friend without a second thought.

When the Serpent Cult attacks the gala, Donnie fights beside Lloyd and helps hold the giant serpents at bay. After the battle he joins the Heroes of Ravenford.

After Book 2 — spoilers for Book 3, Dark Monolith

In Dark Monolith Donnie sits on the council in the keep where the baron, the baroness, Captain Gelpas, Andrella, Dame Alana, and the companions agree to strike at a monolith in the Darkwoods. He rides south with the company.

On the river into the Darkwoods a temptress briefly takes hold of his mind before the companions break her grip. He borrows Lloyd’s flying cloak, and from a chest beneath the monolith he takes a pair of gloves that disrupt spells.
