Characters
Vestiralanna — ‘Ves’ — is the eldest of the three sisters the companions meet on a beach near Cape Marlin in Serpent Cult. She looks about eighteen. Ruka and Maya are her younger sisters.
She is just over five feet tall, with long golden-blonde hair, fair skin, and vivid blue-green eyes. She wears a shimmering, bronze-coloured, knee-length dress as fine as silk, with matching slippers, though she would rather go barefoot on the beach or in the water. She moves with an unconscious grace and speaks eloquently, hinting at etiquette training or a noble background.
Ves is warm and friendly, with real concern for others. She is also a gifted healer whose divine abilities rival Aksel’s.
She tells Glolindir, Lloyd, and Aksel that the sisters are daughters of the wizard Rodric, who vanished at the end of the Thrall Wars nearly a hundred years ago, and that he married their mother, Yatharia, and settled in the Glittering Isles. Like her sisters she is at home in the water. On the beach she lifts a rowboat with one hand as if it were paper, then sidesteps every question, citing a promise she made. When Seth and Martan fall from the cliffs near the lighthouse, she comes to their rescue.
When Glolindir presses the sisters, Ves admits they are runaways. The Wizard’s Council asked their father to look into the disappearance of several of its members, he set out nearly three months ago, and he has not been heard from since. The sisters are searching for him against their family’s wishes. The companions agree to help, and the sisters promise help in return.
Ves comes to the companions’ aid at the gala when the Serpent Cult attacks. Glolindir, hit by a fireball while shielding guests, collapses into her arms, and she heals the wounded alongside Baroness Gracelynn.

After Book 2 — spoilers for Book 3, Dark Monolith
In Dark Monolith Ves is with Glolindir when Lloyd finds him in the keep, healed after the fireball. Her family name is Greymantle: her father is the wizard Rodric Greymantle.
Talking with Glolindir, she fears for her father. Glolindir starts to wonder whether the council disappearances, Rodric’s silence, and Maltar’s vanishing are tied to the Serpent Cult. Ves will not break her earlier promise about the sisters, but she promises their help and gives him a Pearl of Friendship, an amulet that lets him contact the sisters anytime and anywhere.
Ves stays behind when the company rides south, and fills Ruka in so she can follow. Maya goes into the woods with the old druid Almax.
